Carbon steel flanges come in various types, each designed for specific applications and connection methods. Here are the most common types of carbon steel flanges:

1. Weld Neck Flange

Description: Features a long neck that provides a gradual transition from the pipe to the flange.

Use: Ideal for high-pressure applications, as it helps manage stress and is often used in welding.

2. Slip-On Flange

Description: Designed to slip over the pipe, with a small fillet weld on both the top and bottom for reinforcement.

Use: Common in low-pressure applications due to ease of installation and cost-effectiveness.

3. Blind Flange

Description: A solid flange without a central opening, used to seal the end of a pipe or vessel.

Use: Useful for maintenance access points or to close off a pipeline.

4. Socket Weld Flange

Description: Similar to slip-on flanges, but they have a socket or recess for the pipe to fit into, often used with small-diameter pipes.

Use: Suitable for high-pressure applications, providing a strong joint.

5. Threaded Flange

Description: Features internal threads, allowing it to be screwed onto a pipe.

Use: Useful in applications where welding is not feasible, but not suitable for high-pressure systems.

6. Lap Joint Flange

Description: Consists of two parts: a stub end and a loose flange that can rotate around the stub end.

Use: Often used in applications requiring frequent dismantling, as it allows for easy alignment.

7. Raised Face Flange

Description: Features a raised section around the bore that enhances sealing capabilities.

Use: Commonly used in piping systems to ensure a better seal when paired with a gasket.

8. Flat Face Flange

Description: Has a flat surface, providing a sealing surface that is flush with the flange face.

Use: Often used in low-pressure applications and with equipment where a flat surface is needed.

9. Orifice Flange

Description: Specifically designed for flow measurement applications, featuring holes for pressure taps.

Use: Commonly used in metering applications to measure flow rates.
