15CrMoG seamless steel pipe is an alloy steel pipe widely used in high temperature and high pressure environments. Its excellent performance makes it a key material in industrial fields such as power, petrochemicals, and boiler manufacturing. This steel pipe is based on chromium-molybdenum alloy and is made into a seamless pipe through a specific production process. It has excellent high temperature resistance, high pressure resistance, corrosion resistance, and other characteristics, and can meet the use requirements under extreme working conditions.


From the perspective of chemical composition, the main alloying elements of 15CrMoG seamless steel pipe include (Cr) and (Mo), of which the chromium content is about 1.00%-1.50% and the molybdenum content is about 0.45%-0.65%. The addition of these two elements significantly improves the high temperature strength and oxidation resistance of the steel. The chromium element can form a dense oxide film on the surface of the steel, effectively preventing further oxidation; while the molybdenum element can improve the thermal strength and creep strength of the steel so that it can still maintain good mechanical properties at high temperatures. In addition, the steel also contains appropriate amounts of (C), (Si), (Mn), (P), (S), and other elements, the contents of which are strictly controlled to ensure the comprehensive performance of the steel.


In terms of production technology, 15CrMoG seamless steel pipes are mainly manufactured by hot rolling or cold drawing. The hot rolling process is to heat the steel billet to an appropriate temperature, pierce it through a piercing machine, and roll it into a pipe. This method has high production efficiency and is suitable for mass production. The cold drawing process is to draw the hot-rolled pipe billet through a die at room temperature to obtain pipes with higher precision and better surface quality. Regardless of the process used, parameters such as temperature and deformation need to be strictly controlled during the production process to ensure that the organizational structure and mechanical properties of the pipe meet the standard requirements. Subsequent heat treatment, such as normalizing + tempering, is required to optimize the microstructure and performance of the material.


In terms of physical properties, 15CrMoG seamless steel pipes perform well. Its tensile strength is usually between 440-640MPa, its yield strength is not less than 295MPa, and its elongation can reach more than 21%. These mechanical properties enable it to withstand various stresses under high-pressure environments. In terms of high temperature performance, 15CrMoG seamless steel pipes can still maintain good strength below 500°C, and the short-term use temperature can reach 550°C, showing excellent creep resistance. The thermal expansion coefficient is about 12.5×10⁻⁶/°C, and the thermal conductivity is 42.7W/(m·K). These parameters are crucial for the design and calculation of high-temperature equipment.


The application field of 15CrMoG seamless steel pipe is very wide. In the power industry, it is widely used in superheaters, reheaters, main steam pipelines, and other key components of supercritical and ultra-supercritical power station boilers. In the field of petrochemicals, it is often used in high temperature and high pressure equipment such as hydrogenation reactors and catalytic cracking units. In the boiler manufacturing industry, it is the preferred material for manufacturing various high-pressure boiler heating surface steel pipes. In addition, it also has important applications in nuclear power, metallurgy, machinery manufacturing, and other industries. These applications require materials to work stably and for a long time under harsh conditions such as high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive media. 15CrMoG seamless steel pipes can fully meet these stringent requirements with their excellent performance.


Compared with ordinary carbon steel, 15CrMoG seamless steel pipe has obvious performance advantages. First, it has higher high-temperature strength. At the same temperature, its allowable stress is 2-3 times that of carbon steel; second, it has better oxidation resistance and longer service life in high-temperature steam environment; third, it has better organizational stability, and it is not easy to suffer from pearlite spheroidization and other degradation phenomena when working at high temperature for a long time. Compared with other alloy steels such as 12Cr1MoVG, 15CrMoG has a lower alloy content and more cost advantages, while still meeting the needs of most medium-temperature and high-pressure working conditions. Compared with higher-grade P91/P92 steel, although the high-temperature strength is slightly inferior, the welding performance and processing performance are better, and it is more suitable for certain specific applications.


In actual use, special attention should be paid to the welding of 15CrMoG seamless steel pipe. Because it contains alloy elements such as chromium and molybdenum, cold cracks are easily generated during welding, so appropriate preheating and post-weld heat treatment measures need to be taken. Generally, the preheating temperature is controlled at 150-200℃, the interlayer temperature does not exceed 300℃, and a tempering treatment of 680-720℃ is required after welding to eliminate welding residual stress. Welding materials should choose welding wires or welding rods that match the parent material, such as E5515-B2. In addition, the heat input needs to be controlled during welding to avoid overheating and degradation of the performance of the weld area.


From a market perspective, the demand for 15CrMoG seamless steel pipes has steadily increased with the development of industries such as power and petrochemicals. Especially in the context of the promotion of supercritical and ultra-supercritical power generation technologies, the demand for high-performance boiler tubes continues to increase. Major domestic companies have been able to meet most of the domestic demand by continuously improving production processes and improving product quality, and some products are also exported to the international market. In the future, with the advancement of material technology, the performance of 15CrMoG seamless steel pipes will be further improved, and the application field will be further expanded.


In terms of use and maintenance, 15CrMoG seamless steel pipes need to be inspected regularly, especially pipe fittings that work for a long time under high temperatures and high pressure conditions. It is necessary to pay attention to the thinning of the pipe wall, surface oxidation, and tissue deterioration, and replace it if necessary. Avoid humid environments during storage to prevent rust; take appropriate protective measures during transportation to prevent collision damage. Proper use and maintenance can significantly extend the service life of the pipe and improve the safety and economy of equipment operation.
