In the steel industry, steel pipe is a common structural material, widely used in construction, machinery manufacturing, petrochemical, and other fields. For engineering design, material procurement, or transportation, it is very important to accurately calculate the weight of the steel pipe.

First, the basic concept and characteristics of steel pipes
Steel pipe, also known as steel pipe material, is a hollow steel product, usually made by hot rolling or cold drawing. It has the following characteristics:
1. High strength: Steel pipes are made of high-strength steel, can withstand greater pressure and tension, and have excellent anti-deformation ability.
2. Strong corrosion resistance: Steel pipes can be surface treated by galvanizing, coating, etc. to improve their corrosion resistance and extend their service life.
3. Various sizes: Steel pipes have a variety of sizes, including parameters such as diameter, wall thickness, and length to meet different engineering needs.

Second, the steel pipe weight calculation formula
To calculate the weight of a steel pipe with a diameter of 5cm per meter, we need to use the following formula: Weight (kg/m) = π × (outer diameter^2 - inner diameter^2) × weight per unit length. Among them, π is the ratio of pi, and the outer diameter and inner diameter represent the outer diameter and inner diameter of the steel pipe respectively.

Third, the steel pipe weight calculation example
Suppose we have a steel pipe with a diameter of 5cm and a wall thickness of 2mm. Now let's calculate its weight per meter.
First, we need to calculate the outer diameter and inner diameter of the steel pipe. Since the diameter is 5cm, the outer diameter is 5cm, and the inner diameter is 5cm minus 2 times the wall thickness, that is, 5cm - 2mm × 2 = 4.6cm.
Next, we can substitute the formula for calculation: Weight (kg/m) = 3.14 × (0.05^2 - 0.046^2) × weight per unit length
In actual calculations, the weight per unit length can be consulted or calculated according to different steel materials.

Fourth, the application of steel pipe weight calculation
Steel pipe weight calculation has important application value in engineering design, material procurement, and transportation. The following are some common application scenarios:
1. Engineering design: In engineering design, it is necessary to determine the design of the load-bearing structure according to the weight of the steel pipe to ensure the safety and stability of the project.
2. Material procurement: When purchasing materials for steel pipes, the total weight of the steel pipe is calculated according to the weight per meter, to reasonably arrange logistics and procurement costs.
3. Transportation arrangement: During the transportation of steel pipes, the total weight of the goods is calculated according to the weight per meter to ensure the reasonable loading and transportation safety of the transportation tools.
