Many customers often ask us when purchasing steel pipes, what is the difference between the same hot-rolled steel pipe and cold-rolled steel pipe? Why are there two different types of steel pipes under the same material?
1. The cold-rolled steel pipe allows local buckling of the section, so that the bearing capacity of the member after buckling can be fully utilized; while the hot-rolled steel pipe does not allow local buckling of the section.
2. The reasons for the residual stress of hot-rolled steel pipe and cold-rolled steel pipe are different, so the distribution on the cross-section is also very different. The residual stress distribution on the section of cold-formed thin-walled steel is bending type, while the residual stress distribution on the section of hot-rolled steel pipe or welded steel pipe is film type.
3. The free torsional stiffness of hot-rolled steel pipe is higher than that of cold-rolled steel pipe, so the torsion resistance of hot-rolled steel pipe is better than that of cold-rolled steel pipe.
