What are the processing methods and application details of 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipes

First, what is a 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe?

As a terminal technology product in the steel pipe industry chain, anti-corrosion steel pipe has always occupied a very important position in the industry. In recent years, with the development and application of new anti-corrosion technologies for steel pipes, the application of anti-corrosion steel pipes in engineering has become increasingly widespread, and many factories specializing in the processing of anti-corrosion steel pipes have sprung up like mushrooms after rain. 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe is an important variety of anti-corrosion steel pipe. 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe is a commonly used three-layer polyolefin coating (MAPEC) anti-corrosion steel pipe in my country. The main components of the steel pipe base material include seamless steel pipe, spiral structure steel pipe, and straight seam welded pipe, etc.


Second, the processing methods of 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipes.

The processing methods of 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipes are generally divided into two types: spiral wound and circular mold coating. Both consist of a three-layer structure:

The first layer is epoxy powder (FBE > 100 μm)

The second layer uses adhesive (AD) 170 ~ 250 μm

The third layer is polyethylene, 2.5 ~ 3.7 mm thick.

In practice, these three materials are mixed, processed, and firmly bonded to the steel pipe to form an excellent anti-corrosion coating. The processing techniques can generally be divided into two types: spiral wound and circular mold coating. In actual operation, the three materials are mixed and fused, and then processed to firmly bond with the steel pipe to form an excellent anti-corrosion layer. (After this anti-corrosion treatment, it exhibits excellent corrosion resistance and impact resistance even at low temperatures, with low PE water absorption (below 0.01%). It also combines the high strength of epoxy, the low water absorption of PE, and the good flexibility of hot melt adhesive, resulting in high anti-corrosion reliability.) Because of its extremely high sealing performance, this 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe can significantly save energy, reduce costs, and protect the environment during long-term operation.

The 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe coating consists of a bottom layer in contact with the surface of the steel pipe coated with epoxy powder anti-corrosion coating, an intermediate layer of a copolymer adhesive with a branched structure, and a top layer of high-density polyethylene anti-corrosion coating. The 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipe coating (three-layer polyethylene anti-corrosion coating) is a new type of anti-corrosion steel pipe coating that combines the European 2PE anti-corrosion coating and epoxy powder anti-corrosion pipe coating (FBE). It was widely used in North America early on and has been in use for decades. The 3PE anti-corrosion technology and coating combine the high impermeability and high mechanical system performance of epoxy resin and polyethylene, and to date, it has been widely used in many engineering projects.


Third, the application of 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipes.

The applications of 3PE anti-corrosion steel pipes are very broad. They are suitable for underground water supply and drainage, underground spraying, positive and negative pressure ventilation, gas emission, fire sprinkler systems, etc.; pipelines for conveying waste residue and process water return water in thermal power plants; and they also have good applicability to water supply pipelines for automatic sprinkler fire extinguishing systems. They can also be used as protective conduits for power, communication, and road cables. Long-term use of 3PE anti-corrosion and heat-insulating steel pipes can reduce production costs and has relatively strong waterproof and anti-corrosion capabilities. They can be directly buried underground or underwater without the need for pipe trenches. Construction is simple and quick, and overall management costs are relatively low.
