What is the difference between hot-dip steel pipe and ordinary galvanized steel pipe

Although hot-dip steel pipes and ordinary galvanized steel pipes may seem similar, they have significant differences. These differences are mainly reflected in their production processes, performance characteristics, and application fields.

First of all, from the perspective of production technology, hot-dip galvanizing pipes are produced through the hot-dip galvanizing process. In this process, the steel pipe first undergoes pre-treatment processes such as pickling and cleaning and then is immersed in molten zinc. After a period of time, it is taken out to form a zinc-iron alloy layer. Ordinary galvanized steel pipes are produced using an electroplating process, that is, through the action of electric current on the surface of the steel pipe, zinc ions are deposited on the surface of the steel pipe to form a zinc layer. These two different production processes make hot-dip steel pipes and ordinary galvanized steel pipes different in performance.

In terms of performance characteristics, due to the hot-dip galvanizing process, the zinc-iron alloy layer on the surface of the hot-dip steel pipe is closely combined with the steel pipe matrix and has good corrosion resistance, which can effectively prevent the steel pipe from corroding during use. The zinc layer of ordinary galvanized steel pipes is relatively thin, and the bonding force with the steel pipe matrix is weak. The zinc layer is prone to fall off during use, thus affecting its anti-corrosion performance.

In addition, in terms of application fields, hot-dip steel pipes are widely used in various fields such as construction, transportation, petroleum, and chemical industries due to their excellent anti-corrosion properties and long service life, especially those with high anti-corrosion performance requirements. Ordinary galvanized steel pipes are mainly used in situations where anti-corrosion performance is not high, such as in some temporary buildings or facilities.

In general, although hot-dip steel pipes and ordinary galvanized steel pipes are both types of galvanized steel pipes, their application fields are also different due to different production processes and performance characteristics. When choosing to use, we need to choose the appropriate type of steel pipe according to the specific use environment and needs.
